They are not all followers of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, but many Bollywood celebrities Sunday spoke out against the police crackdown on the yoga guru in Delhi calling it 'undemocratic' and 'shameful'.
From Anupam Kher to Shekhar Kapur to Vivek Oberoi, here's what they wrote on micro-blogging site:
'It is shocking to see how police and authorities have behaved with the crowds at Ramlila Maidan. It is unfair and undemocratic. SHAME,' Anupam Kher posted.
Shekhar Kapur: 'In this one stupid act the govt has sent the message that peaceful protests no longer work and opened the road to violence. 50,000 Indian citizens r victims of police brutality for the crime of wanting 2 express their anguish at the corrupt system (sic).'
Raveena Tandon posted: 'This country gives everyone the Right to protest! remember?'
Ranvir Shorey: 'Shameful state of affairs. The govt has turned Ramlila Ground into a mini-Tahrir. All on their own. The people want the govt to be corruption free. The govt says it wants to be corruption free. Where's the need for tear gas? (sic).'
Vivek Oberoi: 'Watching disturbing images of injured, crying women and elderly people. Violence is NEVER a solution. What happened 2our Gandhian legacy of ahimsa? (sic)'
Pritish Nandy: 'I am no Ramdev supporter. But this is wrong. In fact, this is a dangerous sign of govt intolerance.'
Shruti Seth: 'Can someone please ask all the politicians to shut up and do something that will actually make a difference to our lives.'
