For a decade long, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been contemplating on making the biopic on Peshwa Bajirao and his wife Mastani. "Bajirao-Mastani" is a dream project of Bhansali and for the past 10 years we have heard widespread reports of the movie, and Bhansali has kept on thinking of the cast of the movie for so long time. He had in mind Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to be parts of his dream project, but after the break-up of Salman and Ashwarya, Sanjay had to shelve the project for the time being.
Later on Bhansali wished to cast Salman and Kareena Kapoor in the film. The duo even did a photo-shoot in an elite hotel of Juhu in the historical attire. When the time came to start the project, Bhansali had to back out, as Salman wanted Katrina Kaif to be Mastani in the film instead of Kareena, as he was dating Katrina then.
A variety of speculations did rounds, including that Salman’s aversion and the Devdas of Bollywood Shah Rukh would be seen in Bhansali’s "Bajirao-Mastani". And the newest development is that Bhansali is in talks with Ajay Devgn for the central role in the movie. And now, the Mastani might be played by Katrina Kaif as she can easily speak in Hindi these days.
