Kangna Ranaut has been signed by director Vishwas Patil in
his ambitious movie Rajjo and will be seen playing a mujra dancer in it.
Confirming the news, Patil told in a statement, “There is no
doubt that Kangna is a talent to reckon with, however, what appealed to me more
was that she has a strong Indianess to her that hasn’t been exploited in her
roles so far. With Rajjo that is exactly what I aim to do.”
“The film looks into the issue of the mujra houses that are
dying a slow death in today’s competitive world of high rises and corruption,”
he added.
He also tells, “Only 70 old mujra houses are remaining in South
Mumbai . My assistants have gone across the border to research
them. We are also getting an insight into the lives of the mujra girls through
the works of writer Saadat Haasan Manto.”
Rajjo is a story about hardcore struggle and passion for
survival.
Kangana is one excited woman these days. She is all prepared
to play the role and feels people will be able to relate to Rajjo. She will be
visiting kotha areas to research her new role.
“When I heard the script of the film. I knew immediately I
wanted to be part of it. People will identify with Rajjo’s character and
empathize with her struggle,” said the actress.
The film will be produced by Four Pillars Entertainment. The
film will also see Mahesh Manjrekar, playing a eunuch and Prakash Raj essaying
the role of a politician.
