While the Bollywood industry looks to take its cinema global, the dynamic producer Mukul Deora has gone ahead to bag one of the most prestigious international projects – The White Tiger.
Providing a darkly comical view of modern day life in India through the narration of its protagonist, the novel is the contrast between India's rise as a modern global economy and its working class people who live in crushing poverty.
The motion picture that Mukul has taken under his wing is based on the Booker prize winning novel which is also to be co-produced byPatrick Milling Smith and John Hart whose last film was the Academy Award nominated Revolutionary Road, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet.
Says Mukul “ When entering global cinema, you need a story that connects with everyone. Something that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries with its emotional content. I believe The White Tiger is a universal story; a scathing satire on the journey of a poor man through the corrupt system set in contemporary India. Its extremely relevant to what is happening here today and I’m happy to be getting an opportunity to tell this story!
On the home turf front Mukul Deora is producing the sequel to the comic hit Bheja Fry which is slated to release June 17th 2011.
