Film Singham
Movie: 'Singham';
Starring: Ajay Devgn,Prakash Raj, Kajal Aggarwal;
Directed by: Rohit Shetty;
After action film Zameen, duo Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty are team-up for another action drama based on last year's Suriya-starrer southern hit, Singam. Ajay Devgn is paying tribute to the actioners of the 70s and 80s through this film.
After macho man Salman Khan, only Ajay carries the role with lends the movie quite some reliability.
The comparisons predictable, Ajay Devgn's Inspector Bajirao Singham is just as muscled and six-packed as Salman's Chulbul Pandey, or perhaps even a tad more. The lionesque cop also happens to be the darling of his Goan village, Shivgad, resolving disputes in his own system, whether it requires paying off a crooked money lender out of his own pocket, or beating up goons in extended fights for eveteasing a girl, by taking her dupatta.
The action truly picks up, though, when Singham runs into the villainous Jaykant Shikre, who can tolerate anything but never tolerate if someone hurting his ego. Shikre, a builder based out ofGoa , has made a business out of kidnapping, extortions and forcing honest police officers out of their work and life. When the duo meets towards the interval, it is a proverbial collision between a rock and a hard place. Shikre, humiliated by Singham's fame in Shivgad, has him transferred to Goa city, his home turf, so he can give him a 'proper welcome'. Singham finds himself victimized by Shikre and his politico friends, and almost decides to quit the police force, before a chubby five year old hugging his leg in pleading makes him realize that he is a quasi-superhero who can single-handedly end all crime in Goa. Cue an impassioned speech from Singham about a policewale ki aukaad, and pretty soon, he has the whole police force backing him in a night-time operation to put an end to Shikre, in an ironically utopian, yet strangely pleasing climax.
Where some might find issue with 'Singham' is in the pacing of the moving, with Bajirao's character taking almost half the film before coming into his own, instead being occupied by comic cut scenes and romantic subplots. Though Bajirao's character packs quite a punch, this isn't unboxed till the second half approaches. As an alternative, Shetty stocks the first half of the movie with some passable comic situations about police constables getting smacked on their heads with coconuts and industrialists with nicknames like 'Gotya'. The movie finds a honest pick-up in the action sequences towards the middle, as both Shetty and Devgn find themselves on home ground, what with both their action pedigrees.
Another painful point for the movie could be the setting that Shetty picks for it, setting it in the Goan Maharastrian heartland, and having Ajay carry off a Maratha character. Though Ajay does his best trying to mouth catchwords like 'aai cha gavat', he seems distinctly hesitant in those moments. But he surrounded by a host of Marathi veterans in major roles, including the likes of Ashok Saraf and Sachin Khedekar.
As Bajirao Singham, Ajay Devgn's act is equal parts bulk and magnificent and the fact remains that Ajay is one of the best leading men in Hindi cinema. It is also a clear delight to watch him beat the bad guys to pulp as he does here, returning to action after many, many years.
Prakash Raj also shines in his role as Jaykant, though it is more of the same he's played before. Though more talented actor seems to be content typecasting himself in roles such as these, the fact is that movies like Wanted and Singham require exactly the sort of over-the-top villains that Prakash has patented.
Kajal Aggarwal comes in as Kaavya in a love angle that is as needless as it is mismatched, put in here just to give Singham a few love songs to sing. The others, like Saraf and Murli Sharma, are could have been better used.
Ajay and Atul are a bit of a dissatisfaction with their music for Singham here. Though the two have been responsible for some of the best in Marathi music over the past few years, the two don't quite hit the mark with this soundtrack and may have to wait for the forthcoming Agneepath remake to earn their chops. Except for the title track, Singham, neither of the other two tracks, really deserve a mention.
Overall, it is worthy to watch for Ajay Devgn’s honest act and Rohit Shetty’s action genre skills.

I was uncertain about returning to action: Ajay Devgn
He started off as an action hero with 'Phool Aur Kaante' in 1991, but Ajay Devgn, who returns to the genre after eight years with 'Singham', tells he was not very keen to sign the movie.
'Even though I started as an action hero, I had not done an action film for the past eight years and I was doubtful whether I will be able to do it or not,' Ajay said in an interview.
'I waited for all these years before exploring the genre again because I was not getting the right script. But 'Singham' was wonderful. It is hard-hitting, a complete entertainer and creates a balance between entertainment and being sensible. Also, the movie has amazing action sequences,' included the actor who has been a part of Bollywood for two decades.
'I am glad that I did manage to pull it off,' he told.
The 42-year-old's last out and out action film was the 2003 release 'Qayamat'. After that he shifted focus to fun movies and did comedies like 'Golmaal' series, 'All The Best' and 'Sunday'.
He also did 'Omkara', 'London Dreams' and 'Raajneeti' among others.
The actor shows six-pack abs in 'Singham', which is releasing Friday. Did he have to work a lot on his body for the movie?
'I didn't have to do a lot in terms of training. I trained a little more than usual and followed a more strict diet for two months,' he disclosed.
'Singham', directed by Rohit Shetty and which stars southern star Kajal Aggarwal, is a Hindi remake of Tamil film 'Singam'.
Ajay is playing a cop and after the promos were released, many comparisons were being made with Salman Khan's 'Dabangg'. But putting wagging tongues to rest, the actor disclosed that there was no resemblance between the two movies.
'We have nothing to do with 'Dabangg'. The only similarity is that both the lead actors, me and Salman are wearing uniforms, that's it. So there should be no comparisons,' told the actor who was touched when Salman appreciated his body and look in the movie.
'I got to know that Salman liked my body and expressed it on Twitter. It made me feel nice. This shows that there is no rivalry among us, unlike the reports that go around. We all support each other and appreciate each other,' he told.

Ajay Devgn HOT BODY rocks in SINGAM thanks to his personal trainer Prashant Sawant!
Celeb trainer Prashant Sawant, the 28-year old entrepreneur in the burgeoning Indian fitness industry is very much the secret behind Ajay Devgn’s new look in his forthcoming movie Singham and King Khan’s six packs which had become a talking point three years ago in Om Shanti Om. Ajay Devgn’s beefy look is the outcome of the high protein diet he had been put to by his fitness trainer. Prashant is also the personal trainer for actor Shah Rukh Khan and has been training him for the past 10 years. Apart from catering to these two celebs he personally helps a host of celebrities, including Sharman Joshi, HemantTrivedi, AftabShivdasani, Vipul Shah and Nikhil Dwivedi to achieve their fitness goals.
Prashant owns and is the chief training mentor at the Body Sculptor gymnasium, with branches at Juhu and Borivali. He has a dozen people to assist him, including his wife Maya Pereira Sawant, who is also a fitness expert and trains several female celebrities including Shah Rukh's wife, Gauri Khan.
Ajay Devgn is known to be one of the fittest actors in B-Town. So this time it’s not the conventional six-pack, it’s a more realistic, brawny physique that the actor’s carved for himself. PrashantSawant, who’s helped him get to this point in three months, says Ajay went through rigorous combination of weights and circuit super sets that incorporated all techniques of work outs.
His greatest ticket to fame was the meticulously-planned development of King Khan’s six-pack abs in Om Shanti Om.Nowthey are back in the news again with Prashant assuring an even bigger surprise. He has helped both the super stars towards showing off a newly acquired hot bod in their forthcoming films.
Prashant’s future goals are to establish himself in the industry as the first name for personalized training and to keep implementing the wealth of knowledge he has been fortunate enough to gain over the years.

National Award-winning music directors Ajay-Atul are known for their music in Marathi movies, even though they have given music for a few Bollywood movies as well in the past. But in 'Singham' the musical couple have not been able to discover many elements as the album has only three originals and it is not a musical movie.
The album kickstarts with Sukhwinder Singh crooning the title track 'Singham' that starts with mantra chants. The track is more of a song that will be used in the background than something that can be hummed. It is moderately-paced and introduces the character -- an average beginning to the album.
Then comes a love ballad 'Saathiya' that has Shreya Ghoshal behind the mike with backing vocals by composer Ajay himself. A sweet effortless melody, the song grows on the listener.
After that is a track with slight Sufi influences - 'Maula maula'. This too is romantic and has been sung by Kunal Ganjawala and Richa Sharma who harmonize each other totally. Although the composition is not very experimental, it still manages to generate interest and is quite likeable.
All the three songs have one remix each.
In general, not much can be said about the album because there are a very few songs. Not a music buff's delight, but the songs might work well on screen.
