Film Murder 2 Review

After a lot of buzz about sex quotient in Murder 2, Bhatts’ camp proves successful again with lethal combination of Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, Emraan Hashmi and Mohit Suri.

Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt choose not to make cinema with big stars. In its place, they substitute stars with big initiatives and innovative concepts. In fact, their fondness to work with a new cast and crew is purely unstoppable. An innovative story with admirable doses of eroticism has always proved a winning blend.

The Bhatts' new offering is the sequel to Murder. This one's set in Goa for the period of Christmas and New Year, when vacationers gather this hugely popular touristy destination. The busy streets and beaches make it impossible for the authorities to keep tabs on everyone and everything. A serial killer is on the loose... An interesting concept, without any doubt!

The writer of this movie may have drawn some inspiration from the Korean film The Chaser, but it's not an unashamed rip-off. Nor is it a remake or adaptation of the American action film 12 Rounds. ‘Murder 2’ deals with the crimes related to the flesh trade and it exposes the dark side of the society.

Murder 2 offers a seat sticking entertainment and forward Murder franchise in bold way. It's not a sequel in the true sense of the word. It has a totally new story to tell with fresh characters, is bolder and far more erotic, plus the conflict between the good and the evil is one of the key components of the franchise.

Mohit Suri, who had directed the sequel to Raaz – The Mystery Continues, is also entrusted the responsibility of taking the Murder series forward. Compared to what Anurag Basu did in Murder, Murder 2 is a dark movie. Mohit is a capable, stylish narrator and he leaps notches above the prequel in every aspect. There are some scenes that may appear upsetting, but that's the strength of this film. It's not for the weak-hearted. In point of fact, Mohit and writer Shagufta Rafique take the story to a heightened violent level.

Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) is an ex-cop who earns his bread doing the odd jobs for gangsters and flesh traders. Arjun meets Sameer, a Goan flesh-peddler, who has been suffering a huge loss as his hookers have been disappearing mysteriously. He assigns Arjun the responsibility of tracing the missing girls. Priya (Jacqueline Fernandez), a model, loves Arjun. However, he is hesitant to commit to this relationship.

Arjun realizes that the missing hookers are connected by one cell phone number. He decides that in order to catch the lion one must feed him the lamb. He devises a plan that involves sending a girl to the particular customer.

Reshma (Sulagna Panigrahi), a college student, takes to prostitution to support her family. She becomes the innocent prey and is sent to the antagonist Dheeraj's [Prashant Narayan] house. The unexpected happens. In the meantime, Arjun and Dheeraj cross paths. Arjun gets into a tiff with Dheeraj and they both land up at the police station. Dheeraj admits to a crime so heinous that even the police are stunned by his outrageous behavior.

Now it's all up to Arjun. He has just one night to find proof against Dheeraj and also trace Reshma.

Director Mohit Suri and writer Shagufta Rafique come to the point at the very start, when a horrible murder takes place. Afterward, we are introduced to the varied characters in the plot and what makes it all the more interesting is that all characters are either grey or black. Also, the identity of the serial killer is never concealed, but the reason is, which one realizes much later. It comes as a shock, honestly!

While the screenplay gives you no time to wonder about since it unravels at an excited tempo, the assorted characters and their tracks keep you on tenterhooks throughout. The victim finds herself cornered, the ex- cop is looking for evidence, the serial killer finds himself being shielded by a powerful and influential person... the sequence of events that lead to the culmination are truly nerve-racking.

The sequence between Emraan and Jacqueline at the former's home, with Jacqueline in an intoxicated state, appears like a forced add-on. Also, one misses the chartbusting 'Bheege Honth Tere' kind of track in this hour, since the two songs that are enormously popular have been placed in the first hour.

Director Mohit Suri reignites the sparkle that he illustrated in his early movies. He's a skilled, competent storyteller and this film reiterates the fact yet again. Ditto for writer Shagufta Rafique, who's supremely talented as well. Though she may seem inspired from a source, Shagufta gives Murder 2 her own color and shade. Both Mohit and Shagufta push the limits in terms of the characters and the situations that have been created. The Bhatts have always had a good track record as far as music goes and Murder 2 is no exception. If one avoids comparing the soundtrack with the prequel, this movie has a rich soundtrack that works fine. 'Haal E Dil' and the track filmed on Yana Gupta at the onset, 'Aa Zara', are first-rate compositions. Ravi Walia's cinematography is excellent.

Both Emraan and Prashant Narayanan compete for top honors. Emraan delivers a strong-willed performance, playing the angry guy to perfection. He's so with the character. In fact, this would rank amongst Emraan's most accomplished performances. Prashant is a dynamic actor. This movie is sure to make people sit up and notice this magnificent talent. Stepping into Mallika's shoes in the sequel is Jacqueline. Like Mallika, she takes the boldness quotient to the next level with her sexy and hot presence. In fact, she gets little chance to display histrionics, but she makes a sincere attempt to portray her character with care.

Sulagna Panigrahi is a talent to watch out for. She's first-rate. Sudhanshu Pandey performs his part with a lot of coolness. Sandiip Sikcand astonishes with a stellar act. Though a brief part, his act adds a lot of spice to the proceedings. Shweta Kawatra shines in that lone sequence. Yana Gupta sizzles in the opening track.

In general, Murder 2 is one of the finest crime stories to come out of the Hindi movie industry. Also, as a movie, it lives up to the expectations that you may associate from a sequel of a hit. This one's bolder, more erotic and has a narrative that will surprise and astonish you.

Jacqueline Fernandez discloses how she become comfortable with Emraan Hashmi before hot and cozy scenes!

Jacqueline Fernandez discloses how she broke the ice with Emraan Hashmi.
“When you meet him first, he comes across as a lot quieter than what you would imagine. In films he looks like someone who is quite casual with a gift of the gab. However, in real life, he doesn’t interact much.”, Jacqueline disclosed about Emraan Hashmi.
“This left me wondering how both of us would manage to work with each other as I talk so much. I was like ‘Oh my God, would I have to keep my mouth shut for most of the times on sets’,” she included.
Luckily for the 26-year-old actress, a photo shoot was held for the two before the movie went on floors. This broke the ice between the two and though they didn’t quite become thick friends after that, it became a comfortable professional relationship.
“Emraan has an extremely good sense of humour and makes you laugh in the tense moments. In fact I was amazed at the manner he was kept his cool and was so chilled out even in adverse situations,” told Jacqueline Fernandez.
The beauty from Sri Lanka has not been able to make a mark in Hindi film industry yet. But she hopes to make a difference with Murder 2, which she says is darker than Murder.
“There is lot of evil and darkness and Murder 2. Compared to what Anurag (Basu) did in Murder, this one is a very dark film,” she tells.

Mahesh Bhatt wants to take out guilt from sex with ‘Murder’ franchise!

Disclosing that he never wanted to cast Mallika Sherawat for 'Murder 2', filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt tells that he is planning to make 'Murder' a franchise and will be coming out with sequels of the erotic crime thriller.
'We didn't feel the need of Mallika in 'Murder 2'. We never wanted Mallika back because unlike 'Murder', which was a woman's movie, this is a man's film,' Bhatt said.
Bhatt tells that casting Sri Lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandez in the movie was a spur-of-the-moment decision.
'When we were discussing the casting, someone spoke about her and said that she had done a movie, 'Aladin', but it failed at the box office. We saw her photographs and she came to the office, we liked her and took the call. We never thought of anyone else,' told Bhatt.
The 61-year-old also revealed that he wanted to make 'Murder' a brand and would continue making a series of sequels.
'We decided to make 'Murder 2' with a clear understanding that it would have the key components that were in 'Murder', which is erotica, edginess and experience of crime and thrills. And this is going to be the brand of 'Murder'. We are not going to stop here. We are going to make 'Murder 3' 'Murder 4' and so on,' the prolific director told.
Releasing July 8, 'Murder 2', directed by Mohit Suri, explores the life of a couple, dealing with the uncertainty of their relationship.
'What I have seen is that problems of unmarried couples are more than that of married couples. That's what it's there in 'Murder 2',' tells Bhatt, who has made path-breaking movies like 'Saaransh', 'Arth', 'Daddy', 'Sadak' and 'Zakham'.
'The problem of Jacqueline is that she sleeps with this man, has the companionship of this man, he loves her but the problem is of commitment. This is the age where young people are frightened to make commitments,' told Bhatt.
In the last decade, Bhatt's banner has given hits like 'Jism' and 'Murder'.
Bhatt tells his movies have high sexual content as he wants to dust out the feeling of guilt associated with the term sex.
'I want to take out guilt from sex. There is an age-old relation between sex and guilt. Indian heroines used to be very hesitant about doing bold scenes, taking it to be a dirty thing. That's the fountainhead of your life, how could it be dirty?' he questioned.
'In the 21st century, we have increased the sexual content as India has changed. Its thought processes have changed and so have changed the sexual references,' told Bhatt.

Mohit Suri wants popcorn cinema now!

Young director Mohit Suri, known for making only dark and intense movies, tells he is now inclined towards light, popcorn cinema.
'It was a conscious decision to make movies like these when I was younger because everyone my age at that time was making sweet popcorn movies. I wanted to be different and I knew I could do it; so I made hard hitting movies. But I know I'm looking forward to a lighter movie,' Suri said.
The 30-year-old has made movies like 'Zehar', 'Kalyug', 'Awaarapan', 'Woh Lamhe' and now 'Murder 2'.

Mohit Suri dubs Jacqueline Fernandez dialogues due to diction problem!

Director Mohit Suri, who has directed Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez in his forthcoming movie 'Murder 2', had to dub a few of her lines because of pronunciation problems.
'Jacqueline is a very hardworking girl and she really worked hard on her diction. I have retained most of her dialogues in the film and have dubbed only a few portions of her voice. But otherwise she has done everything on her own. She used to listen to the recorded lines and memorize the diction.’
'Murder 2' also stars Emraan Hashmi and is slated to hit the screens July 8.

Director Mohit Suri says, Lovemaking is the most difficult scene to shoot!

Showing intimate scenes on the big screen is not outlawed in the film industry any more and filmmakers often include a good dose of it. But director Mohit Suri tells shooting bedroom scenes can be a nightmare.
Suri, who has directed forthcoming thriller 'Murder 2', a sequel to 2004 hit film 'Murder', has shot a few lovemaking scenes with the lead pair Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez.
'Lovemaking is the most difficult scene to shoot because there the director cannot show the actors what to do. You have to let the actors be and let them do their own thing,' the 30-year-old director told.
'Although a lot of people say it's very easy to shoot for physically intimate scenes and its fun... that's all untrue because it is no fun. It's a very uncomfortable situation. It's very difficult to shoot, even for the cameraman, because you don't know in which direction the actor will go. Lighting is also an issue. You have to keep so many things in mind,' he included.
In order to make both Emraan and Jacqueline comfortable during the shots, Suri kept intimate scenes for the last schedule.
'I shot all intimate scenes in the end deliberately so that Emraan and Jacqueline get to know each other and got that trust and faith in each other before. You can't ask two people on the first day to do intimate scenes. It's difficult. 'It's important that the actors have a rapport before they do such scenes,' told Suri who is not new on the job - he has movies like 'Zehar', 'Kalyug', 'Woh Lamhe' and 'Crook' that have bold scenes.
Released in 2004, director Anurag Basu's 'Murder' was one of the few movies of that year to have bold content and Suri discloses that the sequel will also have a heavy dose of the same because that is the requirement of the story.
'If you are showing an illegitimate relationship in a film, it's unfair to show it with two flowers. Emraan and Jacqueline are friends. They are people who are not in love but they are sleeping together. So you can't show that relationship by showing them holding hands and singing songs in parks,' told Suri.
'But we have not pushed sexual content into the film to grab eyeballs. It was incorporated because it was required,' he included.
'Sex in films is always used for titillation. If anyone says that they are using it artistically, they are lying. There is no such thing. But even a song is there for titillation. If you see a good song, it excites you. If you see a good action sequence, it thrills you. If you see a good dance number, it entertains you. So everything is for titillation.
'We are in a business of exciting people. It's not for artistic reality,' told Suri, who is filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's nephew.
'Murder 2', which has been produced under the banner of Vishesh Films, is slated to hit screens July 8.
