Taj Express for Indian Folk Music!

The first ever musical in India directed by Shruti Merchant and choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant.

For the first time in India, Shruti Merchant and Vaibhavi Merchant presented a concept of Commercial theatre to India. This colorful song and dance extravaganza presented a new dimension of entertainment. The show which is based on a story of love and destiny, exhibited India for its divine culture, beyond bollywood and cricket, absorbing all traditional essence of the land from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.

The evening of the premier of the show witnessed a lot of inquisitiveness from the show’s invitees, The Theatre was swamped with The honcho’s of the film fraternity and eminent theatre personalities anticipating the wondrous journey they are about to be taken into.

Some of the most acclaimed names of the entertainment Industry attended this night of extravaganza, Abhishek  Bachchan attended this  magnificent event. Rani Mukherjee, Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh, ,Sonam Kapoor. Yash Chopra were a few among the invitees who overstated this event their presence.

The story of the show is revolved around the Indian theories about Destiny and Karma. It highlighted the Indian Folk Music collated from different parts of India with their own unique idiosyncrasy, bringing together the powerful rhythm of Lavani – Marathi, The indispensible energy of Tandav –a divine art form by lord shiva and the charismatic South Indian Kooth.
The original hindi commercial song sequence is about a common man’s life in India which has been specially directed by Salim – Sulaiman.

Through the sets, Taj Express brought out the beauty of India in its purest form. The larger than life sets made to suite the theme of the play in order to complement the story added that essence of sovereigns to the show. The picturesque Taj Mahal, Assi Ghats of Banaras, to the bustling by lanes of Mumbai, the essence of every venue is portrayed.  The Art Director – Fali Unwala has created The ‘Taj – express’ the train on the stage to show the journey in the story.
