David Dhawan is all set to remake Sai Paranjpye’s 1981 offbeat comedy Chashme Buddoor. While Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar has stepped into the role that Farooq Shaikh played in the original, Dhawan has now roped in Rang De Basanti star Siddharth.
The South actor, who was last seen in Chandan Arora’s Striker, is going to play the late Ravi Baswani’s role in the movie.
Casting for Ravi Baswani’s role was both tough and emotional for Dhawan. He discloses, “Ravi is the only member of the cast who is no more and I miss him. Ravi and I were roommates when we were both starting out in our careers. I had to put Ravi in safe hands. I had to cast someone who I knew would do justice to his part.”
It was Siddharth’s close closeness to Dhawan that landed him the role. “I’ve known Siddharth for a long time. He is a dear friend. And only a friend can play Ravi Baswani’s role,” told Dhawan.
Siddharth and Dhawan were previously supposed to work together in Hook Ya Crook (2010), which later was made with John Abraham in the lead.
Going by Amitabh Bachchan’s cameo appearance in the original, Dhawan also intends to bring onboard Big B to make an appearance in his remake.
