Nagesh Kukunoor is the master of different genres!

Film-maker Nagesh Kukunoor, known for his fondness for dabbling with different genres of movie, wants to challenge himself with every single film he makes. For him, repetition is a strict no-no.
'I love to explore different genres. I don't claim to have great knowledge but it is my take and I as a film-maker want to challenge myself with every single film. I don't want to do something I had done before,' told Nagesh, who was in the city to promote his upcoming movie 'Mod', which is a romantic love story between two incompatible personalities.
'It is not that the movie is not working. I am trying different genres. Even after 'Iqbal' was a huge success, I made 'Dor'. And after finishing one genre, at least the immediate next film is not the same. I do something totally different,' he told.
Nagesh made a mark in the industry with movies such as 'Rockford', 'Hyderabad Blues', '3 Deewarein' and 'Iqbal'. All of his four movies dealt with different genres.
'I think 'Mod' is different from the fact that it's my take on a love story. In this film what appealed most to me is that it seems that the two characters can never come together,' he told.
The movie is scheduled for release Sep 30. Ayesha Takia and Ranvijay Singh play the two main protagonists of the movie.

Director Nagesh Kuknoor, who was not confident about making a love story ever, proved himself wrong by making 'Mod'. He tells it was the story of the movie that compelled him to endeavor into it.
''Mod' is my first love story. I had always told I would never make a love story but here I did find something worth telling,' Kukunoor said journalists at the launch of the first look of the movie.
'Mod' identifies with his critically much-admired movie 'Dor', Kukunoor disclosed.
''Mod' returns to the space I dealt with and enjoyed a lot of success of 'Dor'. Not only the three-letter name but also I used the tag line of 'Dor' that says 'how far you can go to save your love',' told Kukunoor.
The director's last movies - 'Aashayein', '8X10 Tasveer' and 'Bombay to Bangkok' failed at the box office.
Starring Ayesha Takia and MTV VJ Rannvijay, 'Mod' is a love story between two very, very implausible people, and set at the backdrop of a small hill station.
'Usually I like to set up my stories in these little towns, a kind of utopian India where everyone is nice and everything is fine.'
'Ayesha runs a small clock repairing shop where she meets the stranger Rannvijay, who every day turns up with some problem of his wrist watch and there stars a peculiar love story, which takes a dramatic turn.'
'There are number of layers in the story, which peel out as the movie proceeds, but ultimately it's a love story,' told Kukunoor.

Nagesh Kukunoor's last few movies such as Aashayein, 8 x 10 Tasveer and Bombay to Bangkok may have failed at the Box Office but the director is not losing hope. He has already moved on to his next project titled Mod. The movie is a love story and stars Ayesha Takia and Rannvijay Singh.

Mod is based on a Taiwanese movie Keeping Watch and the makers have even bought the rights of the movie to avoid any pointless controversy.

The unit freshly completed a major schedule in Ooty and the movie is likely to release sometime in September 2011.
