If Ranbir said ‘NO’ then ‘Barfi’ happened never: Anurag Basu

Anurag Basu, Ranbir Kapoor

Director of “Barfi”, Anurag Basu discloses that if Ranbir Kapoor would have said NO to the movie, “Barfi” wouldn’t have been made.

Basu told in a statement, “If Ranbir wouldn’t have done this movie, I wouldn’t have made it. I always had Ranbir in my mind for this role. Even on the day when I was writing the 10th page of the script.”

Barfi is a romantic comedy, revolving around a boy named Murphy, whom everybody calls Barfi. Though he is physically challenged, he is quite a charmer and is ever ready with “n” number of pranks in his head.

A lot has been told about Ranbir’s character. However, Priyanka too, has a very strong role in the movie. What’s motivating is that, Anurag Basu was not very sure about Priyanka.

A source tells, “Anurag was sure about two things. First and foremost he wanted Ranbir to play the title role of ‘Barfi’ (that’s his name in the film).

Secondly he wanted a newcomer to play the part since he didn’t want any star baggage to take over the female character.

Though Priyanka felt that she could play the part, more so since she had played complex characters in movies like ‘What’s Your Raashee?’ and ’7 Khoon Maaf’, Anurag was busy hunting for a newer face.”

If buzz is to be believed, a three day workshop was conducted about which no one else knew other than Basu and Priyanka.

“Well, all I can say is that hum dono ka iss workshop ke baad darr nikal gaya tha”, smiles Basu, “Honestly both of us were apprehensive and credit goes to Priyanka that she participated in the workshop as if she was preparing for her first film. Trust me; she is going to surprise everyone.

I am sure even she herself will be surprised since she doesn’t know what she has given to the film.”

Basu also confirmed that Katrina Kaif was the first choice in place of Ileana D’cruz, but she later opted out.
