Dabangg’s triumph in National Award!

Salman Khan's Dabangg, directed by debutant Abhinav Kashyap, bagged the Wholesome Entertainer award of 2010 at the 58th National Awards announced in New Delhi today.

The year 2010 was not so good for the Hindi film industry and this was reflected at the national awards' annoucement. While most of top awards were bagged by the south movies, Arbaaz Khan's debut production venture Dabangg starring Salman Khan got the national award for Best Wholesome Entertainment and Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh's middle-class family drama Do Dooni Chaar was named Best Hindi Feature Film.

Actress Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who made a dream debut opposite Salman Khan in blockbuster Dabangg, is amazed that her debut film has won national award for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment.

"Kamaal karte ho yaar (What a feat, guys)! National Award bhi andar (pocketed the National Award too)! Team Dabangg take a bow! And to all of you who got us this far - THANK YOU!" Sonakshi posted on her Twitter page.

Dabangg, produced by Arbaaz Khan, is a story of a corrupt police officer Chulbul Pandey, played by Salman. Sonakshi played his love interest Rajjo.

The movie has earlier received six Filmfare Awards, seven Star Screen Awards and nine Zee Cine Awards. It has got a total of 11 nominations in the forthcoming International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards to be held in Toronto next month.
