The promo of Anurag Kashyup’s Shaitan raises eyebrows

Anurag Kashyup’s Shaitan has raised quite a few eyebrows thanks to its contemporary, thrilling and edgy promo -
With novel angles and high speed shots capturing risqué sexual and violent behavior, the trailer gives audiences a taste of the first of its kind film on teenage angst and the rebellious attitudes of youth in metropolitans.
Nambiar says, "The idea was to translate the edginess of the film into the trailer. Today’s youth is aggressive, sexual, violent, edgier and aware of everything happening around. They like to explore the darker side and push the envelope till they can be brought in check by authorities. The film is basically about how well you deal with the shaitaan (demon) within you."
Adds producer Anurag Kashyap, "Shaitan is like a David Flincher film set in Mumbai made by an Indian filmmaker. It completely blows you away."
Produced by Anurag Kashyap and co-produced by Tipping Point Films, the youth film arm of Viacom 18, Shaitan stars Rajeev Khandelwal ,Kalki Koechlin , Neil Bhoopalam (LSD fame),Shiv Pandit, Kirti Kulhari and Gulshan  Devaiah and comes to a theatre near you this 10th June,2011.

Anushka Sharma goes slim to slimmer for YRF next!

Anushka Sharma has been asked to get leaner and toned than ever before!
The reason? Yash Raj Films has asked her to shed any extra inches gained before she begins shooting for her next movie Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. The actress has had a long break after the shoot of her last project Band Baaja Baraat.
The production house is very strict when it comes to the fitness of their heroines. While signing a movie, their contract insists they be of a certain weight and have a specific Body Mass Index.
A source discloses, “A foodie she binged on her favourite delicacies and let herself go. YRF has instructed her to go slow. The actress began working out with her trainer and got a toned look. Since she has a high metabolism rate, losing weight quickly isn’t a problem.”
Those who have worked with the banner insist that they are pretty weight-specific when it comes to the women. “Every one from Kareena to Deepika have followed the YRF diktat of getting the right digits on the weighing scale. It’s a rule they don’t let anyone break.”

After the super success of Dabangg, Salman Khan is absolutely in demand. He has unexpectedly become every director’s favorite and is on every producer’s wish list.
The newest we hear is, Karan Johar, is wooing Salman for his next production to be directed by Rensil D’Silva. Rensil is reported to have penned an action-thriller on the lines of ‘Oceans Eleven’ this time and he’s of the view that Salman Khan suits the role of the leading man best. Karan is on the same page.
Karan Johar was freshly in talks with Salman for an appearance on his show Koffee With Karan, but the talks fell through after Salman seemingly demanded a contribution for his charity Being Human in return for his appearance on the show.
At the present, will Salman take the bait and give his nod to a film being made under Dharma Productions, whose poster-boy for many years has been Shahrukh Khan?

On being asked if Ready will be a bigger hit than Wanted and Dabangg, Salman told, “We don’t make movies thinking it should be the biggest flop, theatre mein ‘ek kutta bhi na aaye’.”
Salman never misses any opportunity to promote his Being Human cause. He was peeved to see some people at the event wearing fake Being Human T-shirts and told them not to buy fakes.
Zarine Khan wore a Being Human shirt and Salman too, was wearing a Being Human T-shirt.

Katrina’s French film dream ends now!

Katrina Kaif is inspired by a French movie so much that the actress had decided to turn producer and remake the movie for Bollywood. Rumours of the actress casting her sister Isabel in the movie were also afoot.
However, Katrina herself broke her silence and later disclosed that she wanted to buy the remake rights of the 2006 French film Priceless.
And after months of going back and forth, the deal as of today stands cancelled.
The people in question simply stopped reverting to the Bollywood actress. “It was ridiculous. Katrina is an A-list actress in Bollywood. They should have dealt with the proceedings very tactfully,” disclosed a source close to Katrina.
“Tired of the unprofessional behavior, Katrina too, has eventually given up on her French dream.”, included a source.
However, this setback has not managed to squash Katrina’s dream of turning producer. “She is very much open to other movies. She is quite a film buff and sees a lot of foreign films. Who knows, she might even pick up a Hindi film and remake it,” said the source.

Kalki gets into character for Shaitan

Kalki found a novel way to get into character for her role as a spoilt brat in her forthcoming film Bejoy Nambiar's directorial debut "Shaitan"

The actress prior to the shooting of the film got rid of her current play list on her Ipod and replaced them with dark and morbid music to get under the skin of her character.

LAILA KE LIYE SALA KUCH BHI KAREGA

Teddy Maurya, the production designer of Chalo Dilli has earlier acted in two of his films which he production designed too, Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal. He was approached by director Shashant for the role of ‘Bhaiyaji’ but refused since there was a lot in his plate as a Production Designer already.

Teddy remained unmoved till four days before the shoot when the director decided to cash in on his weak nerve. The moment Teddy found out that Yana Gupta was doing the number, he agreed in the blink of an eye. He has been a fan of hers for a long time now right from ‘Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo’ days. Not only did he agree to do the role but also erected a set in a flat 28 hours and designed his own costumes and did every possible thing without any complaints and now the last we heard is designing not only her home but also Lara’s.

The Laila song was shot in one and a half days! Quite an achievement one must admit, where a song of this magnitude usually takes nothing less than four to five days to shoot. And this, in spite of the fact that Yana Gupta was unwell.

Today’s generation will get really bored if they see actors doing the same thing again and again.  ‘They want to see their actors doing new things. Court gives the breath to ‘Chalo Dilli’ release!

The Delhi High Court Tuesday declined the plea of well-known music composer Anandji Virji Shah for staying the release of tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi’s debut Bollywood film ‘Chalo Dilli’, starring his wife Lara Dutta, for violating copyright by remixing his trendy song ‘Laila o Laila’.
‘Let the film be released on April 29,’ Justice Manmohan Singh told, issuing notice to the director and producer of the movie and seeking their response by May 12.
Anandji, who with his brother Kalyanji, had composed music for many movies, had approached the court alleging that the filmmaker has violated the copyright by making a remix of ‘Laila o Laila’ from the 1980s movie ‘Qurbani’, directed by Feroz Khan.
Filing a civil suit, Anandji sought an order restraining the filmmakers from issuing any audio CD or DVD with the remix of the song.
He also claimed damages of Rs.1 crore from the EROS International Media, the producer of ‘Chalo Dilli’, contending the filmmakers should have obtained his permission for the remix. He also argued he was entitled to receive royalty for the remix of the song.
‘It is shocking to find that the music composition contained in the song ‘Laila o Laila’ in the film Chalo Dilli is slavish and a distorted version,’ told Anandji.
‘A separate licence/permission would be necessary from applicant (Anandji) in the absence of which there would be an infringement of Copyrights Act,’ he told, in his suit.

Bebo (Kareena) and I are close friends: Tusshar Kapoor

Your act was appreciated in your last release ‘Golmaal-3’. How much has the ‘Golmaal’ franchise helped you as an actor and in your career?
Golmaal has given me so much in my career. Everywhere I go out, people know me for my character Lucky from Golmaal. I have done many movies like ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’, ‘Gayab’, ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ and others, but I haven’t got this much appreciation for my work from any of my previous movies. I owe a lot to Golmaal franchise.

Is ‘Golmaal-4’ in the pipeline?
Yes, very much and I will be a part of it. The movie is in the pipeline but it will only go on floors in 2012. The makers have an idea but a full script has to be worked out. I have gained a lot from Golmaal and I will continue to enjoy the fruits.

Tell us about your forthcoming movie ‘Shor’.
‘Shor’ is my home production. It’s definitely a different film. It’s not a regular masala film, it’s a black comedy. The film is about the ‘noise’ in lives of people in Mumbai. It very much highlights the spirit and soul of the city. It is a slice of life, a fun film which will make you laugh and cry.

In 2010, many small budget movies fared well and were critically appreciated. What are your expectations from ‘Shor’?
If my work is good and the movie is good, people will like it. ‘Shor’ is a small budget but entertaining movie. Of course I’m hoping ‘Shor’ also gets lucky like many other small movies that have done well but it depends on how the audience accepts a movie. Going by the positive response I got from different movie festivals like Pusan or Dubai movie fest, I think it will work. I am waiting to get lucky.

Do you think comedy comes easy to you?
Everything in acting is hard work. Comedy is also a serious business. My objective is to entertain my audience. It’s a tough job. Acting is challenging and you have to give your best shot in whatever role you take up.

You are earlier times star Jitendra’s son. Do you think it is easier for a star-kid to make it big in Bollywood?
People have a lot of expectations from star-kids. At first there is a lot of pressure. The industry accepts you but you have to survive on the basis of what you are and what you are capable of. Thankfully, people value me for what I am and I was not judged on what my father is. It’s your own effort, hard work, luck and talent that count. Having told that, I feel it is easier for star kids to make an entry, later they have to fend for themselves.

You are good friends with Kareena Kapoor. What is your equation with Kareena and Saif?
Yes, Bebo (Kareena) and I are close friends. Our companionship goes back to my first movie and her second – ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’. We have a lot of common friends and that’s how the friendship is maintained. My best friends are also her best friends. I am not that close or friends with Saif as much I am with Bebo.

Your sister Ekta Kapoor is the czarina of television industry. Is she your inspiration?
Well, I have my own career plans, and as a person, I have to learn from my mistakes. She is a very strong-headed personality and an inspiration in a way. But, we hardly spend time together. We are family but busy with our own career paths. Whenever we are together we share a friendly banter, we crack up jokes.

Tell us about your upcoming movies.
You will soon see me in ‘Shor’, Love U Kalakaar’ and ‘Run Bhola Run’.

What about marriage plans?
Well, I am single but I do keep my eyes open (smiles). Yes, I plan to get married some day and have kids.

I have no broblem in kissing and intimate scenes if convincing: Mahie Gill

After ‘Dev D’ we haven’t seen much of you. Any reason?
The very reason is that I was getting similar kind of roles and I didn’t want to be repetitive in my performances. I didn’t want to get stereotyped. I waited for the right scripts and I am happy to try my hand at different characters. Throughout last year I was busy shooting, I have four releases lined up this year.

Tell us about your forthcoming movies.
My movie ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ with Irrfan Khan should release this year. I have also done a comedy thriller ‘Utt Patang’, where I play a con woman with loud costume and makeup, it is releases soon. Then there is ‘Michael’ with Nasseruddin Shah; and ‘Sahib Biwi aur Gangster’ with Randeep Hooda and Jimmy Shergill.

So you have been choosy in picking projects?
Yes, I want to portray different and strong characters in good films that are why I take time to choose a project. Only if I am 100% sure about a script I will take it. I have been selective and I am lucky I am getting different kinds of scripts. I will pick films that excite me and not just the ones where I am required to look sleazy and do skin show.

Are you intentionally saying ‘no’ to films that require you to expose?
I never have the problem in essaying bold roles but it has to be justified, look convincing and treated aesthetically. For me, kissing or doing steamy scenes is also an emotion to portray on screen. It is part of my job and I take my work seriously. I want to make sure it doesn’t make me look vulgar and for that I have to trust my director. After ‘Dev D’, there were so many producers and directors who wanted me to just do steamy scenes on screen but I asked them to convince me first. Why should I do such a thing on screen? There has to be a reason and conviction.

This is the age of Munni and Sheila. You also did a hot item-song in ‘Mirch’ but sadly the movie and your song went ignored. What you say?
Yes, I did an item-song in Vinay Shukla’s movie ‘Mirch’ and it wasn’t publicized well. I don’t know the reason. Any actor would like his or her work to be shown nicely or marketed nicely. I also did an item-song with choreographer Ganesh Acharya for the movie ‘Knock Out’ which was completely deleted from the film. You feel bad but it’s not just your loss. The producer spends so much on such things; there must be some reason why few things never see the light of the day.
Do you think item-songs are trendy again? Are you doing any more item-songs?
Item-songs are fun and luckily many have become huge hits. But right now I am not doing any more item-songs. In future, may be.

You won so many awards for your debut act in ‘Dev D’. Did life change after that?
I lead a very normal life. I have the same set of friends even today. I am not a party animal or a Page 3 celeb. I am a very private person. People expect me to be seen at parties and events, at first I didn’t believe in this but my friends have convinced me that it is actually required to stay in the demand.

So you think being seen at the right place at the right time matters?
Yes, it is important. It was difficult for me to do this initially but I am trying now. I used to believe if I am good, the work will come to me irrespective of the fact which parties I attend. But people started thinking that I have an attitude. So I have started going out, meeting people. Those who know me know the fact that I can’t be showy. I am a normal girl and serious about my work.

Have you ever tried to mingle with people not known to you at parties in anticipation of work?
I have never done that. I believe in luck. If it is meant for me, it will come to me.

There are critics out there who write good and bad things about your performance and appearance. Do such things matter to you?
Yeah, it makes a lot of difference. If people who appreciated you earlier are commenting negatively then there is some problem. And why film and fashion critics? My mother, my borthers and my friends tell me if something was below the mark. I take criticism seriously and want to better my act.
